Watercolor Portraits by Margot Bloom

Home Information Gallery About the Artist

A special birthday, anniversary or just a simple memory.  I can create your portrait from one of your most cherished photos.

Choosing the best photo

When you are choosing a photo for your portrait consider these qualities:

bullet

Select a pose that is pleasing.  This is the most important element.  A great pose makes a great painting.

bullet

Choose a photo that is crisp, clear and up close to the subject. This way I can pick up on all the beautiful details.

bullet

Don't worry too much about background elements, logos, blemishes, etc.  I usually paint these elements out so they don't distract from the subject.  Of course if there are items you want, please let me know and I will be glad to leave them in.

bullet

Still not sure what is the best photo?  Send several and I will choose the best one.

bullet

Some photographs that have been taken by a commercial photographer may be copyrighted.  (They will be marked as such.) This means I can not duplicate them without a written release from the photographer.

bullet

Please take special care when shipping your photos to me as I cannot be responsible for any damage that occurs through shipping.  Here are a few shipping tips that will help prevent any damage to your photos:
bullet

Use a commercial photo mailer.

bullet

Sandwich your photos between two sturdy pieces of cardboard.

bullet

Tape all four sides of the cardboard to keep the photos from slipping out and getting bent corners.

The Process

bullet

I will normally crop your image for the best composition.  This makes for a more intimate painting.  If you want your image a certain way or not cropped at all, Tell me.

bullet

Your original watercolor portrait will be painted using the finest quality Arches, acid free, museum quality paper and Windsor & Newton pigments to ensure long term stability.

bullet

Your painting will be completed in 2-6 weeks, depending on my work load.  I will keep you updated on the progress of your painting with e-mail updates.

Pricing

bullet

Prices vary according to content and difficulty, but generally start at $500 for a 14x20 with one subject.  Each additional subject will be $350.  Larger paintings are available and are recommended for large groups.

bullet

There is an additional charge of $175 for a detailed background and/or foreground.  Standard portraits have a shaded background in a color that complements your painting.  You can also choose the color if you want a specific background color.  A complex foreground would be wedding dresses, plaids, ornate uniforms, etc. These elements require a lot more time to paint and will incur this additional charge.

bullet

A deposit of 30% is due before the work begins.  Final payment is due on receipt of your portrait.  Please contact me with any questions.

Ordering

Ordering is easy!  Just click on Order Form link and print out the form.  Send it along with your photos and payment.
